Soft water
Hard water, and especially water containing a high level of carbonates, contains mainly those hardness constituents that accumulate in the pool water circuit as limescale deposits when the water is warmed. The same applies here as in the use of water in the modern household: at carbonate hardness levels of 10-12 °dH and more, the use of a water-softening system is recommended.
The JUDO protection filter prevents the ingress of dirt particles. The JUDO softening system produces the required water hardness. The JUDO JULiA dosing pump system provides corrosion protection for the domestic piping system. Such protection is not required in the swimming pool circuit. The freshwater filling pipe to the swimming pool therefore branches off after the JUDO softening system, but before the JUDO JULiA dosing pump system.

Water care
In addition to the JUDO disinfection range (JUDO Liquid Chlorine, JUDO Chlorine Granulate, JUDO Chlorine Tablets, JUDO Bromide Sticks and JUDO Active Oxygen [granulate or liquid with dosing pump]), JUDO also supplies products for pH-level correction and flocculation.
Once the carbonic acid in the swimming pool circuit, which has a major influence on the pH-level of the water, escapes more or less quickly into the atmosphere, the pH-level usually increases. In order to prevent this, and keep the pH-level within acceptable limits (ideally between pH 7.2 and 7.4, max. between pH 7.0 and 7.6), JUDO pH-Minus is added. If the pH-level falls below the lower limit, JUDO pH-Plus must be used. The water disinfection works best within these limit values. The effectiveness of the disinfection can be checked by measuring the redox potential. Dosing can also be controlled automatically for this purpose.

What is flocculation, and when is it recommended?
A distinction must be made between flocculation for the purposes of precipitating out dirt in the pool (with the filter system switched off), for example if the balance of the water has been "tipped over" due to faulty system maintenance or severe outside influences, and flocculation before the filter in heavily contaminated pools in order to remove dispersed colloidal impurities (solid clouding materials of either organic or inorganic nature), which can only be brought into a filterable state by flocculation. JUDO LIBELLE filter systems provide a filtration effect that makes the dosing of flocculation agent unnecessary with normal water care and in a private swimming pool subjected to average contamination.

Specially important
The carbonate hardness: this should never be allowed to fall below 3 °dH, since this will cause the pH-level to fall into the corrosive mineral acidic range. A JUDO carbonate hardness testing device is therefore a "must" for every swimming pool.

Checking the water quality
In addition to various other testing devices, JUDO offers a convenient, reliable and automatic system for control and checking of dosing systems in the form of the JUDO LIBELLE Pool-Controller. In combination with suitable dosing systems and ingredients, the system carries out measurements continuously, adjusting the dosing as required. A technique which is today the norm in public swimming pools (despite continual specialist supervision), and is also being used more and more in private pools.
